As a homeowner it is most annoying when your garage door won’t close, sometimes it doesn’t go all the way down and leave a gap open and in other times it just doesn’t close at all and stays wide open.
Safety Sensors Might Be Blocked Or Misaligned
The most common reason that cause garage doors not too close is misaligned or blocked safety sensors. You can quickly identify this issue if the garage door opener blinks its lights when you try to close the door.
Some openers let you override this issue by holding down the wall button but most of the times in order to fix it you need to adjust the safety sensors in way they’re front each other and there is nothing in their way that can block the IR ray.
The Door is Obstructed
Another well known reason is that something might be blocking the door. Look around to see if there’s anything in the way like a trash can, bicycle or even a small bag and remove them.
Sometimes even debris on the sensors lenses as small as they are can also cause issues so it’s important to check thoroughly. Once everything is clear and the safety sensors are clean and aliened the door will close without a problem.
Wires Issues
If the wires that connect the garage door opener to the safety sensors are broken or loose the door wont close properly.
Check for any visible broken wire and make sure that all connections are secure. If you find damaged wires you should replace them and we a strongly recommend to call a professional garage door technician to handle the repairs.
